Scott and I recently came to the agreement that, after three years, it was time.
To redo our kitchen, that is!
I am sick of cooking on one tiny area of countertop and of the lack of storage space. And Scott is sick of hearing me complain. I mean, for example, I have to keep all my baking sheets in the oven, so anytime I want to bake something, I have to find a place for all that stuff to hang out (where it inevitably stays for a week or so before making it back to its “home”). So we will be adding lots of cabinets and counter space. Not to mention a bigger fridge with more freezer space, something we desperately need since I make so much food from scratch.
We won’t be doing any crazy huge renovations. The plumbing and gas lines aren’t moving. There may be some very minor electrical work. The only thing we are worried about it what sort of shape the drywall is in behind the existing cabinetry!
And in addition to the kitchen we will be painting and reflooring the entire downstairs. It’s a huge project and it will take us the better part of a month (or longer…) to finish everything. Last weekend we ordered new cabinets and flooring; we spent this weekend getting the living room and kitchen ready for painting this week and trying out different color samples. Then the new floor goes in, and in just a few weeks the cabinets will be delivered.
In order to save money, we will be doing everything ourselves. So things will be pretty hectic around House Real Appetite. Please bear with me over the next few weeks if posts are lacking! I will try to get few posts together, but as the kitchen comes apart, it will be a challenge. Not to mention the challenge that comes with trying to eat Real Food under these conditions. I hope it won’t be too much to handle!
Do you have any kitchen renovation horror stories?
